The MLA held its first-ever international symposium, Other Europes: Migrations, Translations, Transformation, in Düsseldorf, Germany, from 23 to 25 June 2016, in partnership with Heinrich Heine Universität. The symposium featured a wide variety of sessions that examined how European identities have been conceived in the past and present, how European literature has been produced and circulated over time, and how large-scale immigration to and mobility within Europe (as well as the post-1989 redrawing of the European map) have changed these practices. The symposium program featured 68 sessions (including 5 plenary events and 2 receptions) with 227 participants from over 185 universities and colleges
